Building apps with AI · Playbook

How to spec a narrow app, let an agent draft inside that spec, and review the diff before anyone can sign up.

Coding agents are fast at the wrong app. This playbook is a way to keep the app small: a written spec, a thin slice, tests you can run, and a rule that secrets never enter the chat.

It assumes you can read a diff or are willing to learn on something that is not yet handling customer data. It does not assume you will find users, revenue, or a smooth deploy. Shipping means a build you can run, not a business outcome.

The companion starter, sold separately and in the bundle, turns a brief into a spec. This playbook is the judgment around that spec.

What is included

Spec before code

Write the user, the one job, and the non-goals before an agent opens a file. Non-goals are the product. "No payments, no team accounts, no imports" will save you more time than a clever prompt.

The playbook then covers a thin slice, how to review a diff, where API keys live, and a launch list that includes the option to not launch.
